Just a few months after they met during the Euro 2016 in France, Italy and Spain are about to face each other once again. This time this will happen in the upcoming World Cup 2018 qualifiers at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
Italy managed to eliminate Spain from the European Championship during the summer, but a lot of things changed since then. Both nations are led by new managers now - Gian Piero Ventura and Julen Lopetegui, who also called some new faces in their squads since they took over.
Even with scoring regularly for his new team Nice, Mario Balotelli was once again snub for Italy. Instead of him, Gian Piero Ventura opted to rely on Andrea Belotti, Manolo Gabbiadini, Ciro Immobile, Graziano Pelle and Nicola Sansone. In midfield Italy will try to utilize the creativity of Marco Verratti and Antonio Candreva.
Napoli’s Jose Callejon is in a great form since the start of the new season and this is why he was called by Julen Lopetegui for the game in Turin. The young manager also called players like Nolito, Lucas Vasquez and Vitolo, who are going to fight for a spot with Diego Costa and Alvaro Morata. Andres Iniesta, David Silva, Thiago and Isco are offering creativity in the midfield, while Sergio Busquets and Koke are bringing more physicality in the middle of the pitch.
Both team started their World Cup 2018 campaigns with a win. Spain scored eight times against Liechtenstein, while Italy managed to win against Israel away from home. Far from surprise, these are the two teams who are currenlty ahead of everyone else in Group G.
