Ajax dissapointed in the first leg against FC Rostov in the Champions League play-offs, but now Peter Bosz’ team is ready to bounce back and repair the damages
One of these two teams will continue to the Champions League’s group stages, while the other one will have to content with at least six games in Europa League.
The first game between Ajax and Rostov in Amsterdam finished with a 1-1 result, which was accepted as a surprise by the majority of the football fans. The Dutch club was a heavy favourite before the first leg, but the russian team showed some great spirit and discipline in Amsterdam, managing to get an excellent result before the rematch.
Now Rostov will have the opportunity to pursue a historical participation in the Champions League, enjoying the support of its own fans. Ajax on the other hand will have to deliver a better performance away from home, flying thousands of kilometres to Rostov-on-Don. It’s always difficult to play on russian ground, so the dutch team is facing a serious challenge.
Rostov are undefeated in four of its last give games, with Dmitri Kirichenko’s team winning its last game against Tomsk with 3-0. The team is also undefeated in its last four games at home.
Ajax suffered another dissapointment during the weekend, losing with 1-2 at home against Willem II in Eredivisie. The former Champions League winners are clearly out of form in the moment, which is putting their participation in the group stages of the tournament under a serious doubt.
This is a brilliant chance for Rostov to qualify for the Champions League group stages for a first time in the club’s history. This team is not losing easy at home and now they are facing an opponent which is far away from its best form.
Prediction: It’s a tricky game to predict. The european games on russian ground are usually low-scoring, so it’s a good idea to try an under 2.5 bet. We expect to see Rostov paying some serious attention in defense, especially with the positive result from the first leg. Ajax will try to find their opponent’s net at least once in the game, but it’s not going to be easy for them.
